I have the XHA1s and works well in low light (with proper settings, etc.). But for lighting for your subject genre, you need to learn about lighting Noir style. The first link I added is of an article from VideoMaker magazine called Lighting Film Noir Style. It is a basic overview so you may want to dig deeper on the subject. You will also need to understand light temperature (Kelvin). The temperature of the light (clandestine, florescent, etc.) will give your scenes a certain color (you may or may not want). The second link has lots of info about lighting.
