props

Props we have included for our film include the following:
  1. Primarily Charley's bed to show the audience that I am having a dream. The childishness of the room reflects my character's youthful, playful nature as well as the colour 'pink' being a symbolisation of innocence and purity as well as predominantly being a symbol of security.

This will be used to film our opening sequence-the sleeping scene

2. A wooden easel to support the premonition that Hannah will draw as a representation of the future that she is controlling:

The easel

3. A good charcoal pencil which will display the artistic nature and temperament of  Hannah's character as well as conveying her lexical future telling.
Charcoal pencil

4. Paper to draw the premonition:
Clean sheet of white paper which will contain 'The Creator's plan'

5. A table lamp to highlight the significance of Hannah's lexical choice of the words 'It's coming' to signify to the audience that something bad is going to happen:
Table lamp which will be used with the dimming switch for extra noticability

6. Charley's dining table to hold the artistic materials on, so there is a safe basis for the equipments;
If we angle the shot right we can make sure that you cant see the table

7. Comfy pyjamas for me to represent security and comfor, showing that I am comfortable in what I am wearing and also to show that I am sleeping:

8. A yellow/green cape to blend into the environment for Zoe as a representative of her animalistic nature:

9. Adobe editing software in order to edit our footage and add sound/ narratition/ effects ect:
Adobe editing footware
10.Camera to capture the footage of course:

Camera we will be using

11. Tripod to suppost the camera in order to have a contrast between still shots and jolty frames

framing

Four siginificant conventions aids the cameras framing of visual imagery:
  • essential area- reference to safe recording area within the frame
This frame from The Ring has a safe area to film with no tricky obstacles to watch out for. I really like the positioning of this frame which we could adopt in our own as the placement here is really intriging and is something that would be good to replicate.
  • walking space- additional area where the performer can walk/ run
A frame from Scream in a barn where she has a little room to run. Perhaps we can use this in our own where I can run away from Zoe coming behind me like Scream is.

  • looking space- frame area in front of the on-screen actor/actress who is looking at an off-screen object/person
Paranormal Activity where the two characters seem to be looking off-screen at something which the audience cannot see
  • headroom- space above the performers head within the frame
The Blair Witch Project: an example of a frame which has plenty of headroom.
Perhaps we can have a closeup of me/zoe and enable this technique

camera placement

Placing a camera in the idealistic position for creating realistic imagery consists of the following significant contributors : framing, positioning and of course movement. Framing refers to the arrangement of the camera and objects within the cameras frame. Positioning however is the selection of camera to subject distance and angle, whereas movement of the camera is established by the means of various camera mounting devices.
Good use of framing the shot as the knife is the focal point of the frame which indicates to the audience that he is about to kill someone. I really like this camera placement, so perhaps we can use one of our props and make it in the centre of the shot  but so that the persons identity is unidentifiable.
A table showing differential methods. I would like to research into what the anthropomorphic mode is and what relation it has to a handheld camera as we could possibly use it in our own film should we find it good.

An example of camera positioning which captures realistic footage

Here is a little diagram i found of some camera movements, my personal favourite being the pan which could use to pan around me on the floor, perhaps hunched in fear.

facial expressions and body language

Zoe:
  • smiling broadly in a way which the audience will precept as frightening
Villain from Nightmare on Elm Street smiling in a frightning, smug manner
  • intense avid gaze which stares at the screen scarily
Villian from the Grudge looking intensely at an off screen object/person, intended to make the audience  be besides themself with fear
  • teeth bared to evoke barbarity
Dracula in a position which is meant to make the audience feel unease
  • upright body posture to demonstrate her dominance over the subordinates
Upright body posture and positioning of hands round the victims neck displays the strength of his character as 'The Halloween movie' villian.
  • confident walk to again establish her superiority
Silence of the lambs: His smug expression shows the position of his role within this movie, though the bare surroundings suggetss that he is quite barbaric like Zoe's character.
  • Light, dainty movements to imply cunning
Jigsaw from the movie Saw moves daintily in a manner so he can scare his subjects in a way which we want to incoperate for zoe
Hannah:
  • Widening of eyes, capturing intensity of gaze
The exorcist screenshot of the villian with a look of intensity that seems to be laughing in a manner which is filled with power differential to the way in which Zoe's expression is shown.
  • blank expression otherwise to contrast against the avidity of the eyes

As you can see by this image (the Paranormal activity film) Her expression -from the little you can see from it- is quite blank and obscured by her long flowing hair giving a sense of ambiguity to the shot construction.

  • hunched over
The last exorcism hunched over obscuring her identity. What is intriguing is how there seems to be blood on the nape of her neck.
  • shrouded by darkness so her appearance is vague
The blair witch project victim surrounded by darkness with a torchlight to emphasize the side features of his face.

Me:
  • widening of the eyes to  demonstrate shock and horror
Good evidential basis of a film poster which has captured a look of shock enhanced by the hand by the mouth as well as the thick eye liner which has been used. This would be a good look to replicate.
  • slow smile when i become possessed
This smile is very freaky , making the audience feel nervous and uneasy at the prospect of what is going to happen.
  • trembling when i get chased to express my characters vulnerability and inferiority
30 days of night victim running away quickly showing the fear of what is hunting him.
  • jerky jagged movements which are non-synchronized
Chucky doll uses jerky movements that seems out of proportion.
