horror movies

Horror movies are categorized in several divisions: slasher/ Zombie/ Vampire/ Main-stream horror/ Asian horror . All of these sub - genres rely on frequent cliches which are visualised repetitively  In fact if these cliches were absent then the genre would simply fall apart. Cliches include the following :
  • Zombies Flesh eating monsters where their aim is to ravage the population of this particular population .
  • Vampires- blood sucking creatures which thrive on the lifeblood of humans . In recent times however vampires have received a dramatic make over where they are trying to be " vegetarians"
  • Small children-  are often evil in horror movies , a tradition that descends from The Omen and The Exorcist. They are usually the product of broken homes e.g orphaned
  • Teens- are usually portrayed as spoiled brats who cant get there own way and are often home alone.
  • Rural settings- horror films work best in rural settings as it carries a sense of isolation where no one can hear the victim for miles. Places such as Slovakia or Dakota are great milieu for this type of film.
  • Mirrors- there is always mirrors where someone else is in this particular reflection / the mirror has writing on it displaying some type of threat .
  • Baths/Showers - there is always someone taking a bath/ shower and then inconstantly blood appears.
  • Windows- usually in the horror genre the undead are peering through the window but nobody has seen them.
  • Sacrifices- sometimes the victim may have to sacrifice either themselves or another person
  • Psychiatric  hospitals- Sometimes the mentally ill are possessed and end up in these hospitals because they are not believed.
  • Elevators- a popular hideout  where the promiscuous dead wait.
  • Operations- usually the person undergoing the surgery inherits powers
