A frame from our film Takako Fuji |
Her character in The Grudge |
The character we have chosen to hold comparisons against ( both similarities and differences) shares some of the norms and personality traits we wanted for Zoe's character and also some things we wanted to change. For us Takako Fuji, (the actress who plays the creature from The Grudge) is the most easily comparable to Zoe due to the following characteristics :
They both stalk their victims in an animalistic manner through the use of articulaitive body gestures and movements which suggests barbarity
Incorporate a lost distant look in their eyes when on screen displaying a sense of animalistic need.
Both have extremely dark hair which contrast against the very pale pallor of their skin, a symbolisation of becoming undead
Unlike in the opening two minutes of this film you actually do see Zoe's character as her character starts through the dream sequence of its victim.
In terms of costume they both wore clothing in appropriation to environmental features, however she wore normal yet ragged clothes( to display poverty and uncleaness) whereas Zoe wore a cape to subvert against traditional horror norms, which gave our own little twist on the story. The cape proved to be very useful at it emphasized her movements as well as effectively enclosing Zoe's body, camoflaguing her within the environment so that she appears more stealthy (Especially since weather conditions were windy when we filmed it, enabling certain shots to contrast against the stills of the other shots. This also allowed for a laspe of time to show that it was filmed across differential moments) )
Zoe also noticed that in The Grudge the character uses slow, sly movements which seem to have been carefully thought about, allowing the increase of further tension as well as making the audience feel uneasy which is similar to the effect that we had used for Zoe. However Zoe's was slightly more animal personalisation particularly evident through the use of facial expressions such as the intensity which is apparent in her gaze here.
As for Roles their aims is predicatbly very similar essentially finding the prey...and killing it! This is meant to make the audience feel uncomfortable as it is a Horror/Fantasy film.

This like The Grudge is meant to attract audiences slightly more male and mainly middle aged.
